The Entry is a place where no deadlines loom, and blinking cursors are no longer synonymous with existential dread. At least for me, that is. The Entry will take whatever form its writings do. Sometimes it will be home to stream-of-consciousness musings, while other times being home to reported essays and interviews.
The Entry was given its name to take the pressure off. I have the freedom to make an entry, whenever. Whenever my chronic pain or depression let me free of their quicksand. Whenever I want to share something cool. Whenever I don’t feel like participating in the pitch wars that exist in editors’ inboxes.
While this is The Entry’s first entry, different versions have existed over the past year or so. As a Beehiiv titled All The Things, and then a Ghost newsletter once again titled All The Things, and you guessed it–a Substack too.
The platform hopping and name changing were less about being indecisive and more about getting it right. Sometime last year I saw a TikTok where the creator essentially asked, “What happens to your work if Substack and platforms like it shutter tomorrow?” She then went on to encourage people watching, to bring back blogs and owning their domains. I was influenced.
Welcome To The Entry (which still might end up on Substack, for reach purposes lol.)
